“We’re on the way,” I promised Sarah while Judy rushed to snag her keys. I hung up and shoved my phone in my pocket, rushing to get my shoes and anything else I could think of that seemed important. I should’ve known something horrible would happen. Allowing Sarah to venture off with her friends at an illegal fight-club was probably the most irresponsible thing I’d ever done as her guardian.

Forcing those thoughts away, I followed Judy out to her car and barely had time to shut the door before she’d rammed the gas pedal. As I grabbed the seatbelt to clip it in place, I saw Judy reach for her phone.

“Who are you calling?”

“Backup.”

I snatched the phone and ended the call before the person on the other end could answer. Judy spared a glance in my direction, her eyes dark and cold.

“You can’t call for backup, not yet.”

She scoffed at me. “If this is what I think it means, then we have a missing child on our hands.”

“Please, Judy. Not yet. Let’s get there first before we do anything else.”

Her grip tightened on the wheel, curse words faintly escaping her lips. “Fine, Jules. We’ll do it your way.”

Logan called soon after, asking hundreds of questions as to why Judy and I up and disappeared without a trace. I explained everything as fast as I could and demanded for him to start filling up extra bottles of memory potion. Something told me we were going to need them. He told me he’d meet us at the nightclub once he was finished.

We pulled up about ten minutes later to find Sarah and a handsome young man holding a frantic Claire in his arms. That must’ve been Gabe, the guy my sister snuck out with. The one who knew our secret. Judy and I watched as they parted from each other before Sarah ran up to the car.

“Where’s Logan?”

“He’ll be here soon,” I told her. “He’s grabbing extra memory potion in case we need it.”

Judy then walked around the car and grabbed Sarah by the arm, pulling her out the others listening range. “What the fuck happened, Sarah?”

“I don’t know. We were getting ready to leave and Brett was supposed to be in the bathroom. I waited around for him, but he never came out. He’s not inside the building. I’ve used almost every ounce of my powers scanning for him before you got here.”

“Have you tried calling him?” she asked.

Sarah nodded to her friends. “Claire said his phone rings twice and then goes to voicemail.”

Judy pulled out her phone and ran over to Gabe and Claire. They exchanged a few quick words before Gabe dug in his pocket and handed his phone over to Judy.

“Hey baby, are you still at the office?” She paused to look down at Gabe’s phone. “I need you to do me a favor before you leave. I need you to run a trace on this cell number. Call me as soon as you get a location.”

She read out the phone number, blowing out a breath when she hung up.
